ISFNF 2026: AB Vista to present resin acid research on tilapia gut health

AB Vista is to share new research on the effects of in-feed resin acids (Progres^®) on the survival, immunity and intestinal integrity in juvenile red tilapia under disease-challenge. The insights will be shared at the 22nd International Symposium on Fish Nutrition and Feeding (ISFNF) in Darwin, Australia, 18-21 May.

Dr Natchanok (Ann) Amornthewaphat, AB Vista Key Account and Technical Manager, will outline the results of a study that tested the effectiveness Progres^®on red tilapia challenged with Streptococcus agalactiae, a major bacterial challenge in warm-water aquaculture systems.

The poster session will highlight how naturally derived resin acids can reduce gut pathogen load, strengthen gut integrity and support more resilient fish during disease pressures.

Practical aquaculture nutritional strategies

Dr Amornthewaphat said: “ISFNF is a valuable forum to share data on practical nutritional strategies for fish health. This study highlights the impact of dietary resin acids on gut integrity, immune response and pathogen load. I look forward to setting out what these findings could mean for supporting healthier fish during disease pressure.”

Natural resin acids are already used in various species of production animals, and the red tilapia study highlights their potential to efficacy support fish resilience in commercial aquaculture production.

In the study, fish fed Progres^® had stronger immune indicators and showed less gut damage under infection. The supplement was also shown to suppress pathogenic bacteria in the intestine without negatively affecting stress indicators or oxidative balance.

Dr Amornthewaphat will be joined at ISFNF 2026 by Gustavo Cordero, Global Technical Manager, AB Vista, and other AB Vista colleagues.
