Ultra-25 D at IPPE in Atlanta: AB Vista Showcases Science-Driven Solution for Poultry Nutrition

The global introduction takes place at IPPE in Atlanta at the end of January, and this material highlights some of the key information about the product.
Dr. Xavière Rousseau is global poultry technical manager at AB Vista. She holds a PhD in dietary phosphorus optimization in poultry and pigs, completed with INRAE (France) and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and has over 12 years of experience with AB Vista. Her expertise entails animal physiology, feed additives, and nutrient interactions, with a continued focus on optimizing additive value to meet production and customer needs.
Dr. Craig Wyatt holds the position of global technical director – new product launch at AB Vista. He brings over 40 years of experience in the animal nutrition industry and has been with AB Vista for 18 years, where he has led initiatives focused on enhancing nutrient utilization from feed ingredients and feed additives. Dr. Wyatt holds a master’s degree from Virginia Tech and a PhD from the University of Georgia and previously held a faculty position at Washington State University. His expertise spans multiple animal species, with a particular emphasis on advanced nutritional strategies, including the use of alternative ingredients and feed enzymes, to support performance and skeletal development.
1. What inspired AB Vista to launch a new product in the poultry market? What is Ultra-25 D?
AB Vista’s decision to launch Ultra 25-D was driven by the evolution of modern poultry nutrition and the challenges that come with it. As a leader in enzyme nutrition, and with a long-standing focus on mineral nutrition, AB Vista has closely followed the industry’s shift toward lower dietary calcium levels to improve nutrient efficiency and sustainability.
While this strategy offers clear benefits, research and field experience have shown that both insufficient and excessive calcium can negatively impact bone development, leg health, and gut integrity. In particular, excess calcium can reduce phosphorus availability and contribute to intestinal challenges such as necrotic enteritis, ultimately affecting performance and yield.
In response, AB Vista has continued to study the interactions between phytase, calcium, and phosphorus, aiming to maximise mineral utilization without compromising skeletal integrity. This work highlighted the need for nutritional solutions that can support reduced-calcium feeding programs.
Ultra 25-D was developed to meet this need. It is a 25-hydroxyvitamin D₃ source that delivers vitamin D in a more readily available form. Because it does not require liver hydroxylation, it is efficiently absorbed and highly bioavailable, helping maintain optimal vitamin D status. This supports bone mineralization, muscle development, immune function, and overall performance, enabling producers to fully realize the benefits of modern, lower-calcium nutrition strategies.
2. What makes Ultra 25-D different from standard Vitamin D3?
A standard source of vitamin D3 requires two metabolic activation steps: first, conversion in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) and second, conversion in the kidney to its biologically active form. Ultra-25 D bypasses the hepatic hydroxylation step by directly supplying 25-OHD, providing a more direct and efficient source of vitamin D activity and delivering more consistent bioavailability.
3. How does Ultra 25-D synergistically work together with other AB Vista poultry products?
Phytase enhances calcium availability by breaking down phytate in the gastric region, while vitamin D supports the efficient absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the small intestine, ensuring optimal metabolic utilization and retention.
Ultra-25 D is an additional, high-value tool within the AB Vista portfolio, designed to enhance dietary nutrient absorption and metabolism, which enables more tailored nutritional solutions for our customers.
One clear example of this is the synergy in the combination of Ultra-25 D and Quantum Blue. Ultra-25 D is manufactured under FAMI-QS standards. For those unfamiliar, FAMI-QS ensures that feed additives are produced safely, consistently and with full traceability throughout the entire supply chain, guaranteeing product quality from raw materials to the finished product. Raw materials are sourced exclusively from approved suppliers under controlled specifications and quality checks. Final quality controls include analytical verification of vitamin D activity, product homogeneity, and the absence of contaminants. Additionally, stability and shelf-life assessments confirm consistent performance throughout storage and use.
